Avialune Isle
Off the western coast of Ediacara is the large island of Avialune. Home to both fae from Borial and mortals from the mainland, the island is a place of mixed cultures, beliefs, and stories. Separating the island is the central mountain range known as the Niafeld Peaks, with the fae port of Shlune to the south among the island’s jungles, and the mortal port of Zecha to the north upon the island’s rolling fields.
The two cities have a long history of both cooperation and strife, both by their own accord and by the whims of their parent nations from the mainland. Despite this, the mortals and fae who call the island home get along well enough, even if old prejudices still linger in darkness.
Major Settlements
Shlune
Nestled in a bay along the southern tip of the island of Avialune is the city of Shlune. The fae who call the city home have always been open to the wider world, and if anyone had business with the peninsula, it was here that those deals were made. Due to the city being the only welcoming port of the fae for millennia, it is quite unlike the cities hidden among the jungles of Borial, with its culture being a mix of traditions of the fae and the mortals of the rest of Ediacara.
Watching over the city and the island is one of the Sovereign’s daughters, the princess Camara. It was Camara who pushed her mother, the Sovereign, to open the borders of Falnora to the rest of the world. She knew that the mortals had much to teach the fae, and that they in turn had much to teach them.
Population: ~100,000
Zecha
Located in a small bay along the island’s northern coast is the city of Zecha. This port is the entrance to Ediacara for those who have travelled across the mighty Mezcalera ocean. The mixing of cultures from the mainland, and from across the sea, gives the city a mishmash of architectural styles. All these desperate styles have melded together to make a culture unique to Zecha.
Zecha and the northern half of Avialune are claimed by the Silver Empire. While the city plays the part of loyal vassal, its citizens consider themselves Zechans first, and citizens of the empire a distant second.
Population: ~150,000
Landmarks & Points of Interest
Nivercor Tower
The Nivercor is the tallest mountain on the island, with its peak reaching nearly 4,000 ft above sea level. It rises out of the middle of the island’s mountain range, lording over all the other peaks, looking out from sea to sea. It should come as no surprise then that the mountain is the subject, and star, of more than a few stories, myths, and legends.
Which of these tall tales are true, and which are nothing more than fanciful lies, is for the listener to decide.
The Road of Connections
The Road of Connections runs the length of the island connecting Zecha in the north to Shlune in the south. This trail acts as an artery of trade and culture between Avialune’s two major cities, with a steady stream of peoples heading north and south.
The road’s construction is a blend of styles, reflecting the peoples and the fae who live along this vital lifeline, giving the trail a visual personality not seen anywhere else.
Ecology
Just as the Niafeld Peaks separate the peoples of the isle, so to do they separate the creatures who call Avialune home. This separation has resulted in unique ecosystems on each half of the island, with a blend of both throughout the mountains.
Short-Necks
Trundling across the north’s rolling plains and pine forests are herds of the relatively small cousins of the titanic Long-Necks of the continent, the creatively named Short-Necks.
Still standing a good 7 foot tall at the shoulders, these dinosaurs are still large animals, but are much more manageable, leading them to be the preferred beasts of burden for the peoples of the northern half of Avialune.
Fae Dragons
Darting through the dense jungles of Avialune’s southern half are the colourful and insectoid fea dragons. These strange and intelligent creatures have a curiosity that is rivaled only by their alien sense of right and wrong.
A meeting with one of these fae can either go really well or horribly wrong, with both in equal measure.
Manticore
Just as Avialune’s central mountain range has a mixture of creatures both fantastical and the mundane, so to does the evil manticore have a mixture of both natural and supernatural: with the head of person, the body of a large cat, the tail of a serpent, and the wings of bat, these vile beasts are horrible amalgamations that stretch the limits of what is possible.
The monsters stalk the mountain’s peaks and valleys, hunting both fae and mortal alike, always trying to satiate their bottomless hunger for flesh and misery.
