Falnora

Guiding and ruling over Falnora is the Seventh Sovereign and her four daughters: Azola, Camara, Diodia, and Noelle. The Sovereign passes her will down to her subjects by way of her daughters, guiding her nation and its people from the royal city of Xela Sil hidden deep within Borial’s tropical jungles. While the peninsula is now open to the rest of the continent, the royal city and its location, is still a mystery to the outside world. Only when the Sovereign deems it time while the capital reveal itself to the rest of Orzaal, and with it, the history of the nation.

The founding date of the fae nation of Falnora is a mystery that is tightly guarded by the Sovereign, her daughters, and the rest of her nation. Not only is this date a mystery, but most of the nation’s history is also unknown to the wider world: everything from important dates, to holidays and festivals, to even simple stories and fables are closely guarded secrets. With the recent opening of her borders to the wider world, hopefully these mysteries will be revealed in time, and the nation’s rich history will be shared with the rest of Ediacara.

History

According to legends and myths from across Ediacara the Borial peninsula has been home to the nation of fae for thousands of years. It is hard to know exactly when the nation of Falnora was founded, as texts from the ancient nations of Malwin and Beoluf (each of them existing thousands of years in the past) both saying that Borial had always been home to the nation of fae, even if they never gave the nation a name. This points to the simple fact that the peninsula has been home to the fae for eons, maybe even stretching back to the times of myth, tens of thousands of years ago.

Editors Note: We hope in the coming years this section will be expanded upon with primary texts and facts straight from the fae themselves.

Cities and Settlements

Aramore

Population: ~65,000

A lively port that sits upon the southern tip of the Borial peninsula, Aramore has been the only place that anyone from the outside world could catch a glimpse into the way of life in mysterious Falnora. Fae from the woods and from the oceans live here together and are always curious about the outsiders who have visited over the centuries; it is not unusual to see teal skinned nymphs of the ocean chatting with vine woven dryads of the woods, discussing how strange the mortals are from the other lands.

The city’s buildings are a mixture of coral and wood, a coming together of the ocean and the jungle. Buildings carved from polished coral act as a lattice for the jungle, while wooden houses decorated with shells and other colourful items from the ocean evoke the sense of a twinkling lagoon.

Aramore is under the care of the Seventh Sovereign’s middle daughter, the princess Diodia from the palace of Klee.

En Llova

Population: ~150,000

Deep within the primeval depths of the peninsula is the large temple city of En Llova. This city is also home to the Emerald Tower, the rumoured birthplace of the goddess of nature Ellova herself. Only in the last ten years, with the slow opening of Falnora, have peoples from the rest of Ediacara had a chance to see this city of myth and legend. The whole of the city has been grown from the forest, guided by the hands of the fae who call this place home.

En Llova is under the care of the oldest of the Seventh Sovereign's daughters, the princess Azola, who is also the head priestess of the Emerald Tower. She watches over the temple city from the Emerald Tower, guiding the city and her people as they entre the wider world.

Rel Thalor

Population: Unknown

Beneath the surface of Loch Syndra is the shimmering city of Rel Thalor, home to nymphs, merfolk, and the other fae and spirits who call the waves home. Not much is known about the city for certain, with only a handful of mortals ever visiting its flooded streets and buildings throughout the years. With the opening of Falnora to the wider world, hopefully more will be learned about this magical and mysterious place as more and more peoples visit it bellow the emerald waves of the loch.

Rel Thalor is under the care of the youngest of the Seventh Sovereign’s daughters, the princess Noelle from her submerged palace of Ruggosa.

Shlune

Population: ~100,000

Nestled in a bay along the southern tip of the island of Avialune is the city of Shlune. The fae who call the city home have always been open to the wider world, and if anyone had business with the peninsula, it was here that those deals were made. Due to the city being the only welcoming port of the fae for millennia, it is quite unlike the cities hidden among the jungles of Borial, with its culture being a mix of traditions of the fae and the mortals of the rest of Ediacara.

Watching over the city and the island is one of the Sovereign’s daughters, the princess Camara. It was Camara who pushed her mother, the Sovereign, to open the borders of Falnora to the rest of the world. She knew that the mortals had much to teach the fae, and that they in turn had much to teach them.

Xela Sil

Population: Unknown

The capital and seat of power of the Seventh Sovereign, Xela Sil is known only from the stories told to visitors by the fae who call Falnora home. The stories tell of a city made from plants not seen anywhere else on Orzaal, and that if a mortal was to ever set eyes upon the sacred city, they would never want (or be able) to leave. What is true, and what is false is only known to the fae, and they appear to be in no rush to reveal its location to the rest of Orzaal.

It should come as no surprise then that very little is known about this sacred city, but hopefully future editions of this book will be able to rectify that.
