Sibrun

Running from the northern foot of the Torvern Range to the icy and rough waters of the Tamraine ocean, and including the large island of Lanmarfolk to the northwest, is the region of Sibrun. While the people of the continent refer to their home as the “Wild lands,” Sibrun is perhaps the last real wild place on the continent.

These northern lands have yet to feel the touch of industry which has transformed the lands and the lives of those to the south, with the long and cold winters proving to be a worthy enemy to progress. This has not stopped countless hearty and adventurous souls from journeying to these harsh and dangerous lands of the north, driven by the rumours of treasure, lost cities, and forbidden ruins brought back across the Torverns.

It is from these brave souls that the rest of us learn about Sibrun, and is by their hard work that the following information is presented here.

Major Settlements

Tulozi

More of a fort than a town, Tulozi is the only bastion of warmth and civilization in all of Sibrun. Sitting at the end of the main road that cuts through the Torvern Range, Tulozi acts as a kind of entrance to the wild and cold north, offering travelers a warm bed and hot meal before they venture off into the unknown.

Manning the fort are soldiers from Zaranta, who pay only lip service to the Empire, feeling like they are more often than not forgotten by the courts in Vaalbara. The women and men here are always looking for help, and they are never above accepting help from the Empire’s friends or foes; they know that the north does not care who you are, and that the only way to survive here is to work together.

Population: ~500

Points of Interest

The Ruins of Valoel

Valoel was an angelic port city along the northern Sibrun coast that was abandoned when the world-spanning Variazar Dynasty collapsed. It is believed that the angels left behind an entire city made of gold, silver, and platinum with roads inlaid with emeralds, rubies, and sapphires.

It is the lure of this unimaginable wealth that has drawn people to wild lands of Sibrun, despite the rumours of the demons and undead who now call this necropolis home. Few people have ever return from their journey to Valoel, with those that do, saying only that the place is cursed and leaving it at that.

The Torshall Morass

During the short and mild northern summer, the melting of the tundra creates the massive marshlands known as the Torshall Morass. These marshlands spread out as the mild warmth of spring quickly gives way to the slightly warmer northern summer, eventually stretching from the foot of the Torvern’s eastern slopes to the north eastern coast.

The Striped Fields

Stretching as far as the eye can see, alternating bands of stone and the scant northern vegetation are what gives these fields their name. It is unknown if this is a natural phenomena or something consciously made.

More than a few folk have said that basilisks, cockatrice, and other monsters who can turn poor souls to stone wander the Striped Fields, and that the lines of broken stone are the remains of those who get lost out here.

Ecology

Remorhaz

Huge insectoid predators who burrow through the frozen ground and ice, the extreme heat from their bodies letting them glide through the tundra as if it was water. With little warning theses monsters strike, swallowing hapless explorers whole and burning any of who try to stop their feeding.

Remorhaz found here do not get nearly as large as their cousins in Arctica.

Mammoth

Roaming the landscape in familial units, the wooly mammoth is more than a match for any of the monsters and predators that hunt across these cold lands. While they’re not carnivores, these hairy mammals are still very dangerous, and it would be wise to avoid them and their massive tusks while travelling across Sibrun.

Smilodon

Silently stalking the tundra in search of prey, the seven hundred pound smilodon, commonly known as the saber-toothed tiger, is a force to be reckon with. Armed with both razor shape retractable claws and their large tusk like teeth, these cats will hunt anything they can, and have even been said to hunt mammoths and wooly rhinos.
